COBDR Section 1 closed in National Forest

Colorado BDR Sections 1 is now closed in the San Juan National Forest due to Stage 3 fire restrictions. The San Juan National Forest has announced a complete closure of the forest to all people and travel due to high fire danger. You will have to start the COBDR in Telluride and travel north. As of now the Sheriffs office has announced that Ophir Pass is still open to the public, even though it's in the SJNF. This could change in the future, but for now you may start the COBDR at section 2 (Telluride).

IDBDR Status Update

The IDBDR is not completely open as of yet. The National Forest Service has informed us there are still snow and blow down from the winter that needs to be cleared before the entire route will be open. Elk Summit from Big Creek to Warren will be closed for another two weeks. Lolo Motorway and Magruder Corridor will should be opened by July 15th. These dates are subject to change based on weather and work to be done on roads. Check with the National Forest service websites to get current updates.

Santa Fe National Forest CLOSED - Parts of Sec 7 NMBDR CLOSED

Santa Fe National Forest To Implement Forest-wide Closure Order June 1 due to fire concern. This will close part Sec 7 of the NMBDR. From Cuba to just north of Tres Ritos is now closed. You may head north on Hwy 550 then east on 96 towards Abiquiu. You will pick up the route here in Abiquiu. The expert only alternative section from Abiquiu to Tres Ritos is still closed.

NMBDR: Gas Again in Antonito, CO

We have been informed by riders there is now gas back in Antonito, CO. Antonito is at the north end of the NMBDR and was a vital gas stop.

IDBDR Sec 3 closed for tree removal until July 10th

BOISE, Idaho, May 23, 2018 – The Lowman Ranger District has temporarily closed National Forest System (NFS) road 545 to all motorized use while roadside hazard tree removal operations take place as a result of the Pioneer Fire. Known as Long Creek Road and located approximately 4 miles north of Lowman, this closure will remain in effect through July 10.

MABDR: Toll Bridge NOW OPEN

AZBDR IMMEDIATE CLOSURE Along Mogollon Rim

The AZBDR has been closed from Young to Flagstaff due to critical fire danger. We will be working on re-routes until the closure is lifted.

UTBDR: La Sal Loop Road Open for Season

The LaSal Loop Rd north of Moab was temporarily closed due to road construction at the north end just before Castle Valley Road. The construction is almost done but the road is now open to the public.

AZBDR Re-Route Section 5 - Forest Road 203 - Re-Route

Due to severe flooding Forest Road 203 is impassable or has become extremely difficult and a re-route of the AZBDR is necessary.

COBDR: Cottonwood Pass to Close Summer 2018

A portion of Section 3 of the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route will be closed for the entire 2018 summer riding season. Cottonwood Pass which travels over the Continental Divide from Taylor Park on the west to Buena Vista on the east, will be closed this summer (2018). The pass is dirt on the west side and paved on the east. Detour available.

AZBDR Sec 6: Tinder Fire Re-Route Still in Effect

Arizona Tinder Fire closes portion of AZBDR Sec AZ6 Young to Winona is still in effect. FR 139 to FR 95 just north of FR 300 has been closed due to the Tinder Fire on FR 95. We suggest you stay on FR 300 Rim road to Hwy 87 then go north to re-join the route where it crosses hwy 87 at FR 211. GPS tracks and link to Forest Service Closure Order.
