Black Dog Cycle Works Partners with BDR

Black Dog Cycle Works (BDCW) has partnered with the Backcountry Discovery Routes organization to promote a "bucket list" of destinations for the adventure riding community. An Idaho resident, BDCW owner Kurt Forgét has shared some of his best secret motorcycle roads, and has generously volunteered his time to help scout parts of the IDBDR. He also joined the BDR team for parts of the IDBDR expedition held in August and will appear as a guest character in the IDBDR movie that comes out in January 2015.

Temporary Route change in Section One of the AZBDR. All riders who are traveling the AZBDR in section one please make the following adjustment. When you get to the Empire Ranch Headquarters which is approximately 12.5 miles north from Sonoita gas stop please use the AZ1 Easy Alt to Avoid Sand track.

BDR at the 2014 Touratech Adventure Rally

One of our favorite motorcycle events of the summer is almost here. The 2014 Touratech Rally will take place Thursday, June 26th through Sunday, June 29th in Plain, WA. This year's rally will be held in conjunction with the Washington Overland Rally and will include camping, classes, GPS tracks, guided rides and entertaining guest speakers. BDR will be participating along with over 75 other vendors. If you're planning to attend the rally, stop by the BDR booth to see what we've been up to and get a BDR sticker for your bike.

The crew at Backcountry Discovery Routes is at it again. We are currenty working on our fifth BDR, a south-to-north route across the state of Idaho that will be the longest BDR to date. The final route will be well over 1,000 miles of mostly non-paved track, beginning in the old western town of Jarbidge Nevada, meandering through the west side of the Idaho Rocky Mountains on the way to the Canadian Border at the Idaho Panhandle. The release of the IDBDR movie, Butler Map and free GPS tracks is scheduled for January 2015.

AZBDR Road Closure in Section 8

There is a road closure due to a road construction and culvert replacement in Section 8 (mis-labeled section 9 on the back of AZBDR Map) just east of FS 139A and when you turn onto FS 95. To get around this construction, don't turn onto FS 139A and just continue on FS 139. FS 139 will go north and reconnect with the route on FS95. At this time the Forest Service has no idea when this construction will be complete.

Report from the Trail - Wickenburg Desert Ride Fundraiser

In late March, the BDR organization held its first fundraising event, the Wickenburg Desert Ride. Operating out of a private oasis in the desert known as the Boyd Ranch, participants were treated to luxury camping, three meals a day from the chuck wagon and guided rides in some of Arizona’s best backcountry terrain.
