IDBDR: Magruder Corridor is Open

Update: The Magruder Corridor from Elk City, ID to Darby, MT is now reopened. The Magruder Corridor (Section 4 on the IDBDR Butler Map) is currently closed due to road repairs. BDR Presentations at the BMW MOA Rally (Hamburg, NY) - July 15 & 16, 2016

BDR President Paul Guillien will give two presentations during the BMW MOA Rally in Hamburg, NY. See the highlights from the latest New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route and learn about fascinating history that made the New Mexico Backcountry notorious. Get advice for exploring any of the 6 published BDR routes. As a special bonus, BDR Ambassador Kevin Woody will be on hand to talk about the development of three East Coast BDR Routes.

WABDR Section 5 Road Damage

Section 5 of the WABDR has sustained damage and has several sections of washed out road. There are trees and debris in the roadway as well. All are passable with extra effort and some advanced riding skills.

AZBDR Fires in Section 4

There is another fire impacting the Northern part of the AZBDR (Section 4). The section that runs from Highway 87, 211 then on 80 up to Long Lake is now the border of the burn. The incident commander on June 9 said that although the roads are open, they will be back burning right to the edge of the road. In addition, there are significant crews and trucks on the road and the smoke will be getting very heavy.

AZBDR Road Closure Due to Fire in Section 3

Due to the Juniper fire, state route 288 (Young Hwy) and forest road 203 (Cherry Creek Rd) are closed at this time. This means you will have to travel from Globe on Hwy 188 to Hwy 87 and go to Payson. Then take Hwy 260 to the top of the Mogollion Rim where you will pick the route back up on FS 300.

NMBDR Update - Road Closure Section 7

The Alternate Expert track NM7ALT section is closed for some unknown reason at this time. This would be FS 23 and FS137 between Abiquiu and El Rito. The normal route NM7 Cuba to End is still open from Abiquiu to El Rito. However, reports are that the snow level north of El Rito is too heavy and the route is closed from El Rito north.

BDR Announces Nevada as the Next BDR State

Since 2010, the adventure motorcycling non-profit Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) has created six trans-state routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. Having recently published the New Mexico route, the BDR organization is now setting its sights on Nevada, announcing NVBDR scheduled for release in 2017.

AZBDR Sec 4 Route Update

Over the past two years there has been significant rain and flooding in the Arizona area. There is a section of road in Section 4 that was slightly rutted in the past but now has become heavily rutted. When traveling using Track AZ4 Mammoth to Globe you turn off of Hwy 77 onto Dripping Springs Road. The rutting doesn't happen until you go about 10 miles up Dripping Springs and Forest Rd 112.
