Original report on August 7, 2019:
CINNAMON PASS CLOSED DUE TO MUDSLIDES
There are two ways you can go around this closure. You can take our alternate route – Easy Ouray to Lake City, which takes you to Ridgeway and over Owl Creek Pass. This is a beautiful road which takes you through some great countryside. Or you can take the main route and when you get to Animas Forks, you will go over Engineer Pass and down into Lake City. This is a more difficult rocky climb, but if you pick your lines and have made it this far, you should be good. It is however a little more difficult than Cinnamon at times. CINNAMON PASS/CR 20 UPDATE
Road closures have been moved from the summit of Cinnamon Pass to below American Basin. American Basin is accessible by driving over Engineer Pass (CR 20 from Lake City).
Cinnamon Pass/CR 20 is still closed from the Sherman Townsite turnoff (winter closure at the bottom of the shelf road) to below American Basin. There is no estimated time for the road to be opened.
Hinsdale County Road and Bridge Department is working diligently to repair the portion of CR 30 that was extensively damaged after rock/mud slides and road washouts following a heavy rainstorm on Saturday, August 3. There is NO travel beyond the road closures, by vehicle or foot, until the dangerous conditions on the road are repaired. PLEASE abide by these important road closures.
