Hurricane Helene – major route impacts expected

Hurricane Helene has made landfall and brought torrential rain, flooding, and high winds to the region.

• There is the potential for flooded creeks, downed trees and power lines, major washouts, and other severe impacts along the route.
• Flooded creeks can be especially dangerous. Never attempt to cross as swift undercurrents and boulders, logs or other debris can be underneath. When in doubt, turn around.
• Be prepared for downed trees and know when to reroute. Muddy terrain can lead to impassable conditions and road damage.
• Many businesses and communities are likely to be without power which can affect services, including gas.
• Although these towns can surely use the economic boom, avoid riding in adverse conditions to allow for emergency services and repair crews to do their job.
• Riders are urged to use extra caution if traveling the route and expect to make alternate arrangements or bypasses.
