The US Forest Service has announced the lifting of the road closure order which was put in place because of the Plateau Fire. You may now travel the Section 1 from Dolores to Telluride on the route. See the body of the story to get details on detour (re-route).

Aug 8th, 2018
We've received information that there is a triple washout on Liberty Beehive Road at N47 17.762 W120 26.907. It can be done on little bikes but is almost impassable on the big bikes for all but the most experienced riders.

COBDR Ophir Pass Rock Slide

Jul 31st, 2018
Ophir Pass just beyond Telluride has become more difficult to travel due to several rock slides. The road has been cleared but the rock is deep and loose on along the road. What use to have some hard pack single track to negotiate is now all rock. The route is still doable for those who have experience in this type of rock, but difficult on larger bikes. Caution should be taken when traveling this section and this is not considered one of the toughest parts of the COBDR.
