The Washington Backcountry Discovery Route delivers one of the most diverse adventure motorcycle experiences in the country. From the Columbia River near the Oregon border, the ride climbs quickly into the deep forests of the South Cascades, tracing the flanks of Mount Adams before transitioning into wide-open eastern terrain. Riders encounter everything from smooth forest roads to optional technical sections featuring rock, ruts, and high-elevation passes.
As the route pushes north, the landscape shifts again — crossing remote mountain ranges, skirting the shoreline of Lake Chelan, and flowing into the dramatic North Cascades. Nearly 700 miles of backcountry riding showcase Washington’s full geographic range, offering big views, quiet roads, and the kind of terrain that rewards skill, preparation, and confidence on an adventure bike.
ADV Rider Training tours are led by Mike Greene, a retired firefighter and licensed EMT with decades of leadership in high-consequence environments. Our approach blends professional instruction, smart route management, and a true “no rider left behind” mindset — giving riders the confidence to push deeper into the backcountry, ride better each day, and experience the Washington BDR exactly the way it was meant to be ridden.
