Winter is Coming: Check snow levels with our interactive map
With winter upon us, weather and route conditions can change rapidly. Before you go, be sure and use our Interactive Map to view estimated snow levels on each of our routes.
- Click HERE to access the main interactive map page.
- Click on the LAYERS icon in the top right of the window.
- Select SNOW DEPTH to view estimated current snow levels.
- Zoom into the area of your choosing to view the estimated snow depth.
- Explore the other features of our interactive map to plan your next BDR experience.

Section 5: New Permit Required for Travel
A new permit is required for travel through the CO Bar Ranch in Section 5.
- The Landowner Compact requires those recreating to obtain a FREE permit for travel through certain areas of private ranch land in Arizona.
- Currently the only know affected area on the route is a 13 mile stretch through the CO Bar Ranch in Section 5
- There are kiosks set up at certain areas on the ranch property, but not along the AZBDR route so riders must obtain the permit online up to 14 days in advance.

Section 2 – Pioneer Pass ALT Harder
Large storms have impacted the road on the Pioneer Pass ALT Harder track in Section 2 and this optional challenging section has become washed out and is in more difficult condition.
Riders wishing to avoid the additional struggle can remain on the main route via HWY77 into Globe.

Permit Requirements for Riding the AZBDR
As of March 2026 there are THREE permit requirements:
1: The first is the Arizona State Land Trust Recreation Permit from the AZ State Land Trust (AZSLT). An individual permit is $15 and can be purchased online HERE.
2: The second permit is required for a short stretch of private land through the CO Bar Ranch in Section 5. This permit is free and can be obtained up to 14 days in advance online HERE
3: The third permit is required when riding through Navajo Nation (Sections 5 & 6) and is required to ride and camp in Navajo Nation. Camping and riding permits are $15 each per person (cash only). They can be purchased at the small round building (visitor center) at the junction of Hwy 64 and 89 in Cameron. Don’t plan on entering these lands after dark after the permit office is closed.
If you are riding the route from the north, be sure and purchase the permit when you get to Cameron to show you understand the requirement.

Please also note, no alcohol or firearms are allowed on Navajo land, and you must camp in designated areas only.
You do not need to purchase a dedicated OHV Permit for this route while operating a licensed/plated street-legal motorcycle.
