BDR Releases 2026 Progress Report

August 18, 2026

Dear Friends,

Fifteen years ago, a small group of riders had an idea; develop a backcountry route for adventure motorcyclists that would run from border to border through the state of Washington.

That single route has grown into a nationwide non-profit and a community that now spans the country. Today, Backcountry Discovery Routes connects riders to more than 20,000 miles of backcountry roads and inspires tens of thousands each year to explore the outdoors on two wheels.

But BDR has never been just about GPS tracks or maps. It’s about the experiences these routes create. The friendships formed on the trail. The challenge of a difficult section. The quiet moments around a campfire after a long day of riding.

Over the past 15 years, our community has built something remarkable. Together, we’ve developed routes, produced films, supported rural communities and worked to protect access to the public roads that make backcountry travel possible.

In the pages that follow, we look back at the journey that brought us here and share the impact these routes have had on riders and the communities along them. We also look ahead to the next chapter.

Creating new routes, maintaining existing ones and protecting access to public lands takes ongoing work. It requires planning, advocacy and the continued support of riders who believe in the mission.

BDR exists because of this community. Your support makes it possible for the next generation of riders to experience the same sense of discovery and adventure that has inspired so many of us.

Thank you for being part of the BDR story.
