Before You Ride: Important Reminders
Throughout the riding season, changing conditions are part of every BDR adventure.
Plan ahead, ride respectfully, and follow the BDR Tenets of Responsible Travel to help ensure a safe trip while respecting local communities and protecting access for everyone.
- Download the latest GPS tracks before your trip. Printed maps and older tracks may not reflect recent route changes. The current GPS tracks are always considered the latest version of the route.
- Check Route Updates for seasonal closures and beware of fast-changing road conditions before you go. There may be lingering snow and impassible conditions in the early season and deep sand in the summer.
- Please respect all gates and closures. Never ride around them.
- Expect downed trees early in the season. Carry a folding saw if you have one, know the official bypasses, and be prepared to turn around and create your own bypass if conditions are unsafe.
- Monitor wildfire conditions. Use the BDR Interactive Map HERE to check the wildfire activity layer and tools like the onX Offroad wildfire and smoke layers to monitor changing conditions.
- Join your route’s official BDR Facebook group for current rider reports and local updates.
- Ride Right, Ride Respectfully, Yield to Animals and Know Your Limits
We often receive reports of riders speeding, not riding right, and blocking roadways in residential areas.
Please be courteous, respect local communities, and remember that adventuring in the backcountry is a privilege, not a right. Be an ambassador for our sport and help preserve access for future riders.
Doing a little homework before you leave and making good decisions on the trail helps ensure a safe trip while protecting the future of the BDRs for everyone.

Section 3 Closure: Download Bypass Track Here
Major cattle ranching operations are taking place on Showers Pass Rd on Section 3 and a bypass is required:
- Riders can expect heavy traffic, loose livestock, semis, and intermittent closures and delays and should bypass this area via Kneeland Rd.
- This operation will take place from August 19 – 28.
- Please be respectful of local workers and Yield to Animals and adhere to this bypass during this time.

Lost Coast BDR-X Riders: Important Reminders
The Lost Coast BDR-X travels through working ranch country. At certain times of year, ranchers may be moving hundreds of cattle along roads that are also part of the route. Slow down, give livestock plenty of space, follow the rancher’s direction, and be prepared to stop and wait. Their livelihood takes priority over our recreational ride.
A few important reminders:
• Stay on the BDR route. Do not enter private property or explore roads and areas that are not part of the designated route.
• Slow down around homes, ranches, people, horses, and livestock.
• Always yield to animals. Give them plenty of room and never pressure them with your motorcycle.
• Be courteous to local residents and landowners. A wave, a smile, and a little patience go a long way.
• Help each other do the right thing. If someone in your group is riding irresponsibly, speak up.
Remember, when you ride a BDR, you are an ambassador for our sport and for everyone who comes after you.
Access is a privilege. Riding respectfully shows our appreciation for the people, communities, and wildlands we celebrate and travel through.

New Tracks Available for Download
A new version of the Lost Coast BDR-X has been posted labeled BDRX-LostCoastCA-June2026
This update includes a few refinements and a few updates:
SECTION 2:
- A revision has been made to the original Extension track to Windy Pt Knoll. It has now been split with the last portion designated as ALT Harder
- This final portion features a fairly steep and rugged descent, which would be nearly impassable to climb back up if wet.
- Riders can take the EXT track to the 4WD gate to assess the descent and still have a great view of the ocean.
SECTION 5:
- The previous main route on Shively Road has been reclassified as an optional extension. This is due to seasonal closures and the potential for deep sand near the river.
- Please note: the seasonal bridge is now installed but will be removed in the fall. Use caution and Ride Respectfully in this area.
- The river is bordered by private property and camping in this area is not recommended. Please use established campgrounds.
- The new main route follows the 101 with a viewpoint and connecting to Avenue of the Giants.

Reminder: Richardson Creative Exhibit
Riders are welcome to visit the Richardson Creative Exhibit on Section 5. As a reminder:
- Do NOT ride your bikes into the entrance. Park your bikes at the entrance by the road and walk in across the bridge on foot.
- Please do not walk any further onto the property than the bigfoot stature.
- This is private property, please be respectful.

Section 4: No Fuel in Orick
The gas station in Orick has been closed and there is no info on when a new station may open.
Riders can get fuel in Hoopa (off route) or Trinidad.
The main route from Blue Lake to Trinidad is approx 92 miles.
