New Tracks Available for Download
A new version of the tracks are available labeled AZBDR-June2026.
Section 5:
- A larger track revision has been made on the CO Bar Ranch to bypass a solar field installation for the June2026 tracks.
- The previous main route over Gray Mountain has been reclassified as optional ALT Harder due to deteriorating conditions and steep, rocky terrain. The main route remains on Hwy 64 to Cameron.
- However, this section via N6150 is currently CLOSED to all traffic. Please take the main route via Hwy64 until further notice.
Section 6:
- Part of the previous route north of Cameron is now private and off limits. The main route has been revised.
As a reminder you MUST obtain the three required permits along the AZBDR. See below Route Update post with more info.
The permit requirement for the Navajo Nation is now $25 per day.
Additionally a new permit is required on Section 5 through the CO Bar Ranch.
- The Landowner Compact requires those recreating to obtain a FREE permit for travel through certain areas of private ranch land in Arizona.
- Currently the only know affected area on the route is a 13 mile stretch through the CO Bar Ranch in Section 5
- There are kiosks set up at certain areas on the ranch property, but not along the AZBDR route so riders must obtain the permit online up to 14 days in advance.
- USE CAUTION as it appears some construction is happening in this area as well.

Section 2 – Pioneer Pass ALT Harder
Large storms have impacted the road on the Pioneer Pass ALT Harder track in Section 2 and this optional challenging section has become washed out and is in more difficult condition.
Riders wishing to avoid this portion can remain on the main route via HWY77 into Globe.

Permit Requirements for Riding the AZBDR
As of March 2026 there are THREE permit requirements:
1: The first is the Arizona State Land Trust Recreation Permit from the AZ State Land Trust (AZSLT). An individual permit is $15 and can be purchased online HERE.
2: The second permit is required for a short stretch of private land through the CO Bar Ranch in Section 5. This permit is free and can be obtained up to 14 days in advance online HERE
3: The third permit is required when riding through Navajo Nation (Sections 5 & 6) and is required to ride and camp in Navajo Nation. Permits are $25 each per person.

- You will then be send a link to make payment, followed by your permit being issued.
- Option 2: Permits can be purchased in person at the small round building (visitor center) at the junction of Hwy 64 and 89 in Cameron. The Cameron Visitors Center is open 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Don’t plan on entering these lands after dark after the permit office is closed.
If you are riding the route from north to south, be sure and purchase the permit in advance.

Please also note, no alcohol or firearms are allowed on Navajo land, and you must camp in designated areas only.
You do not need to purchase a dedicated OHV Permit for this route while operating a licensed/plated street-legal motorcycle.
