Section 1 – Temp Bypass
Impacts from Hurricane Helene can still be felt in southern VA and many roads are still impassable, meanwhile the towns need your help.
One Section 1 of MABDR, see attached screenshots directing a way around a closure if you choose to start in Damascus.
- This bypass is 13.4 mi in length. See attached screenshots for reference

Section 8 – Road Closure
A road closure is in place near the start of Section 8 on the MABDR just past the Winkelblech Road Vista
- Riders should turn north on Stony Run Rd then east on Pine Creek Hollow to rejoin the tracks
- This bypass is 7.7 mi in length. See attached screenshots for reference

Hurricane Helene – major route impacts (updated )
Hurricane Helene brought torrential rain, flooding, and high winds to the region with major impacts and damage.
- Closures, repairs, and bypasses are ever-changing on Sections 1 and 2 of the MABDR. Check here for updates and join the official Facebook Group Page.
- Local businesses could surely use the income, but be considerate of your impact in certain hazard areas. If you would like to contribute financially, consider donating to a local non-profit or disaster relief fund.
- There is the continued potential for flooded creeks, downed trees and power lines, major washouts, and other severe impacts along the route.
- Be prepared for downed trees and know when to reroute. Muddy terrain can lead to impassable conditions and road damage.
