Start your journey near Mammoth Lakes at Minaret Vista (9,265’). Choose between two advanced sections: one through the Jeffrey Pine Forest and another looping around Obsidian Dome. Admire Mono Lake’s Tufa Spires before the main route, a water crossing. Explore Bodie State Historic Park for old mining town charm. The section ends near Bridgeport with epic views of Nevada and the Sweetwater Range.
Adventure up Burcham Flat Road for a challenging ride up Mount Patterson. Optional Expert tracks available, . Remote Sweetwater Loop north of Lobdell Lake features rocks and potentially sand.. Continue north on Hwy 89 over Monitor Pass (8,314’) and Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass (9,186’), marking the transition from Eastern Sierras to the western slopes of the Great Sierra Nevada Range discover a double-track trail close to Bear Valley that takes you to Winton Road. Descend to the Mokelumne River via forest route. Cross the bridge and navigate steep switchbacks up to the Bear River Reservoir dam. Head north on Highway 88, stop by the Leek Springs Hill Lookout Tower at 7,621 feet. Ride the Mormon Emigrant Trail and follow a 17-mile off-road route to Kyburz on Highway 50.
Discover the Pony Express Trail around Kyburz, take a trip on Ice House Road to Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and proceed to French Meadow Reservoir through Truckee and Donner Pass. Make a stop at Donner Memorial State Park. Carry on past Boca Reservoir, ascend Verdi Peak, and make a pit stop in Sierraville. Journey along Henness Pass Road, passing the picturesque Webber Lake.
Leaving Graeagle, our journey will take us to Argentine Rock Lookout to admire the breathtaking views of Sierra Buttes, Lassen Peak, and Quincy. Next, we will proceed to Mt. Hough Lookout before descending to Taylorsville, renowned for its historic general store. As we pass by Round Valley Reservoir, we will witness the aftermath of the 2021 Dixie Fire. Traverse through a canyon to reach Seneca, a ghost town steeped in fascinating history.
Finally, enjoy a picturesque drive to Chester along dirt roads cutting through charred forests, culminating at Lake Almanor. Enjoy Lake Almanor views before heading to Antelope Mountain Lookout (7,684’), one of the first solar-powered fire lookouts in the country. Descend to Harvey Mountain Lookout (7,354’) and then head to Bieber on asphalt. For a challenge, we will take an advanced track through Little Valley to experience varied terrain.
The primary path transitions to asphalt leading to Bieber. An optional challenging route branches off at the beginning of Section 8, passing through Little Valley. This route involves overgrown grassy terrain with a steep, technical rocky climb that then transitions into a serene, lightly forested two-track path. Remember to close the gates properly when passing through!
Start your journey from Alturas, make your way to the Sugar Hill lookout point, follow forest trails, and then descend to Fort Bidwell. Encounter creek crossings and explore a historic inn, continue through the pine forest, and finally reach Highway 395 close to the Oregon border. Travel north towards Lakeview, Oregon.
