Before You Ride: Important Reminders
Throughout the riding season, changing conditions are part of every BDR adventure.
Plan ahead, ride respectfully, and follow the BDR Tenets of Responsible Travel to help ensure a safe trip while respecting local communities and protecting access for everyone.
- Download the latest GPS tracks before your trip. Printed maps and older tracks may not reflect recent route changes. The current GPS tracks are always considered the latest version of the route.
- Check Route Updates for seasonal closures and beware of fast-changing road conditions before you go. There may be lingering snow and impassible conditions in the early season and deep sand in the summer.
- Please respect all gates and closures. Never ride around them.
- Expect downed trees early in the season. Carry a folding saw if you have one, know the official bypasses, and be prepared to turn around and create your own bypass if conditions are unsafe.
- Monitor wildfire conditions. Use the BDR Interactive Map HERE to check the wildfire activity layer and tools like the onX Offroad wildfire and smoke layers to monitor changing conditions.
- Join your route’s official BDR Facebook group for current rider reports and local updates.
- Ride Right, Ride Respectfully, Yield to Animals and Know Your Limits
We often receive reports of riders speeding, not riding right, and blocking roadways in residential areas.
Please be courteous, respect local communities, and remember that adventuring in the backcountry is a privilege, not a right. Be an ambassador for our sport and help preserve access for future riders.
Doing a little homework before you leave and making good decisions on the trail helps ensure a safe trip while protecting the future of the BDRs for everyone.

Section 5 Wildfire: Bypass Required
The Green Ridge Fire is burning south of Stagecoach Reservoir (south of Steamboat Springs) and a bypass is required.
- At Hwy 134 just north of the Stagecoach Water Crossing, take Hwy 134 to Hwy 131 north to CR14 to reconnect to the tracks.
- This bypass is 29mi, all pavement.
- Be mindful of fire crews working with ever-changing conditions and please avoid the affected areas.
- There is no bypass track included in the gpx file.

Section 2 Wildfire: Bypass Required
The Gold Mountain Fire is burning near Ouray and a bypass is required.
- Riders that are not taking the optional ALT Harder – Alpine Loop track must bypass the affected area
- From Ridgway, take Hwy 550 north to Montrose, then Hwy 50 east to rejoin the tracks.
- This bypass is 47mi, all pavement, and will take about 1 hour
- Be mindful of fire crews working with ever-changing conditions and please avoid the affected areas.

Section 4 Wildfire: Bypass Required
The Willow Fire is burning west of Leadville and a bypass is required.
- Hagerman Pass is closed so riders must take a large bypass via pavement to avoid the portion of the route between Leadville and Gypsum
- From Leadville, take Highway 24 north to Interstate 70 west to rejoin the route in Gypsum. This bypass is 68 mi
- Be mindful of fire crews working and please avoid the closure areas.

New Tracks Available for Download
A new version of the COBDR tracks is available for download labeled COBDR-May2025
This update includes a few minor refinements and a few new updates expanding on the August 2024 revisions:
SECTION 2:
- The original track for section 2 main route has been reclassified as an optional ALT Harder track due to deteriorating conditions from landslides, avalanches, and overuse by SideBySides and Jeeps causing more hazardous road conditions than when originally designed.
- As such, the previous Bypass track between Telluride and Lake City has now become the new main route for section 2 and has been improved upon.
